Movie Birthday Party

A fun alternative to a typical at-home birthday party is to host a movie birthday in which the event is at a movie theater! A movie birthday party is something that all of the kids will look forward to in the weeks leading up to the party, especially if the movie is something they are really looking forward to seeing!

When planning a kid’s movie birthday party, it is a good idea to talk about the details of the party with your son or daughter. Find out what movie they would like to see and set a limit on the number of guests that they can invite. Here are some other movie theater birthday party ideas to consider:

  • Movie Selection: Depending on the age of the kids, you definitely want to be careful when choosing the movie for the party. Some parents are more strict than others when it comes to what they allow their kids to watch. It's always a good idea to make sure that all of the parents are aware of the movie for the party and have given their approval.
  • Location: The first step to planning your movie birthday party is to consider the location of the party. Many local movie theaters have special birthday party packages that include the movie and a party space before/after the movie. If your birthday party is during warmer months, another neat idea is to have the party at a local drive-in. Invite the kids to come to your house beforehand, then bring them to the drive-in movie theater to watch the movie. If you decide to have the party at the drive-in, you may want to have the kids sleepover afterwards so that their parents don’t have to pick them up too late.
  • Invitations: Send out your movie birthday party invitations to your friends about a month before the party. Decide beforehand if you want everyone to meet at your house and then go to the movie theater together or if you want to meet at the theater. Either way, make sure that you write this information on the invitations. You should also think about the number of kids that are attending the party. If you need to, ask another family member or child’s parent to help you carpool.
  • Food: A fun kids movie birthday party idea is to pack a goody bag full of delicious candy for each of the kids to bring to the movie. Some movie theaters do not allow you to bring in your own food though so it is a good idea to look at the theater’s policies before preparing anything. Once the movie is over, bring the kids to a local pizza parlor or take advantage of the theater's party room to have pizza's brought to you! This is the time when the birthday boy or girl can open their gifts.
