- 10 Fuji or Granny Smith apples
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups dark brown sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 2 ½ tsp. vanilla extract
- decorative toppings
Insert wooden sticks through the tops of the apples so that the stick is about 3/4 the way in the apple. Combine the butter, sugar, corn syrup and condensed milk in sauce pan and put on high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil for about 35 minutes. Do not stir the caramel until it is dark and thick. Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Dip the apples into the caramel at an angle. Raise the apple out of the caramel, vertically, and let the caramel drip off of the apple. Hold the stick in your hand, with the apple side up and allow the caramel to settle on the apple. Line the apples up on a greased wax paper. Decorate the apples before they dry completely.
Make the Halloween caramel apples even more scrumptious with Halloween decorations. Decorate the caramel apples with orange and yellow colored sprinkles. Add nuts for caramel apples lovers without nut allergies. Also try pressing Reese’s Pieces or candy corn into the caramel.
