Is your little one brave and determined? Or loyal and dedicated? Send Harry Potter invitations based on their Hogwart House. Whether it’s Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin, these invites will help create a festive atmosphere for your celebration before it even begins.

Harry Potter Birthday Decorations

Create themed signage throughout your party space with colorful poster board and markers. Place a sign that reads "Platform 9 ¾" on your front door and another sign at the entrance of the party that says “Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry.”

Place additional signs that have the names of each of the Hogwart Houses and decorate with balloons and streamers in corresponding House colors: red and gold for Gryffindor, green and silver for Slytherin, yellow and black for Hufflepuff, and blue and bronze for Ravenclaw.

For your table décor, make potion jars using various-sized glass jars, labels, household food items, and some creativity. Potions can include “Cat Eyeballs” using canned baby onions and “Blood & Guts” using cooked spaghetti and red sauce. For a final touch, put a wizard stick and wizard hat at each place setting so the kids can dress up while celebrating.

Harry Potter Party Food Ideas

Make your Harry Potter party food fun and festive by drawing inspiration from the story. Have a mix of hearty dishes and magical candies that were mentioned in the book.  Things like Cauldron Cakes, Acid Pops, Licorice Wands, Jelly Slugs, Cockroach Clusters, Herbology Crudité, and Pumpkin Pasties. These can all be made out of regular food items, just be creative with the presentation and the names.

For a fun snack or DIY Harry Potter party favor, create "wands" made out of pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate. Tie them up in a nice bow or present each one in a box like Mr. Ollivander. Remember, the wand chooses the wizard!

For drinks, make your own Butterbeer! Check out the easy recipe below.

Super Simple Butterbeer Recipe

For one serving, gently whisk one cup of cream soda with one tablespoon of butterscotch syrup. Pour into a clear plastic cup or glass mug for older kids then top with whipped cream and drizzle with syrup. Want to make a large batch at once instead? For ten servings, just mix ten cups of soda with ten tablespoons of syrup. Easy peasy!

Harry Potter Cake & Cupcakes

For dessert, create a Harry Potter birthday cake to complete your wizard-themed celebration. To do this, bake either a yellow or chocolate double-layer cake and frost it with chocolate frosting. For your cake topper, make a wizard hat by dipping an ice cream cone in melted chocolate and letting it harden. Once the hat is ready, draw a lightning bolt on the front with yellow frosting. Place the wizard hat on the top of the cake. Use red and yellow frosting to decorate around the wizard hat to complete your Harry Potter cake design.

Rather make cupcakes? Golden Snitch cupcakes made with Ferrero Rocher chocolates are a simple way to incorporate some magic into your dessert. To start, bake your favorite flavored cupcake and frost. To make your Snitch wings, fold a piece of white paper in half and cut out a wing that is half as long as the toothpick and about an inch wide when folded. Place the toothpick in the center of the wing and use glue to hold it together once it’s folded. Cut the underside of the wing to create fringe, then stick two wings into the sides of your gold foil-wrapped chocolate, then place the Snitch on top of your cupcakes for a sweet treat guests will love.

Harry Potter Party Games

Quidditch is the perfect Harry Potter party game to play during your bewitching celebration. Ideally, you want to play the game outside or in a large space so the kids have lots of room to run around. Check out how to play Quidditch and adjust the rules of the game to fit the space and age of the children.

For older kids, Harry Potter trivia is a fun way to test their knowledge of the books and movies. Sort the kids into the four different Hogwarts Houses and have a table for each one. Have the Houses answer as many trivia questions as they can in 15 minutes and tally up points to see who wins the House Cup.

Use these Harry Potter birthday party ideas and let your guests’ imaginations take over as they immerse themselves in an enchanting world of fun!
